WordPress.com has been hosting free blogs for more than 2 years now. With their sheer development effort and bringing the best features out to the users, I think they have already taken over the blogging scene.

They aren’t the largest blogging network yet. But they seem to understand the cutting edge of this technology and its going to only a span of few years for them to snatch the best content management tool award from Movable Type. Blogger ? Those guys are now history.

When Google took over Blogger, we were all certainly excited but nothing big has happened since then. Its a pity that they don’t even have a tool to import content from other blogging softwares. And people have been asking about this since 2004. I’m not sure why Google hasn’t been concentrating on Blogger as much as it has done to its Feed Reader.

WordPress.com started offering free uploads upto 3GB per account from this week. But that isn’t the big news. Check out WP site to see the blogging community that they are building. Even Tamil WP Bloggers are a strong community there. Just when Blogger.com is filled with spam blogs, I think these WP blogging communities are going to be WP’s lifeline in the days to come.

Today, one of those developments comes to fruition — everyone’s free upload space has been increased 60x from 50mb to 3,000mb. To get the same amount of space at our nearest competitor, Typepad, you’d pay at least $300 a year. Blogger only gives you 1GB. We’re doing the same thing for free.

Our hope is that much in the same way Gmail transformed the way people think about email, we’ll give people the freedom to blog rich media without having to worry about how many kilobytes are left in their upload space.

இந்த வாரம் ரொம்பவும் பேசப்பட்ட க்ளிஷே, “If america sneezes, asia catches cold”. இதையே பலரும் பேசிப்பேசி, ”அமெரிக்காவுக்கு தும்பல் வந்தா , எங்க வீட்டு பசு மாட்டுக்கு ஜலதோஷம் பிடிச்சுகிறது” என்று எருமபுடிச்சான் பட்டி வரை எதிரொளித்தது. விஞ்ஞான முறைப்படி, தும்பலினால் ஜலதோஷம் பரவுவது மூன்று நான்கடி வர தான். இந்த coldக்கு காரணம் ஆயிரமாயிரமாய் ஆளாளுக்கு பங்கு மார்க்கெட்டில் கொட்டிய துட்டு.

அமெரிக்காவின் சகாப்பதம் இந்த ரிசஷனோடு முடிந்தது என்றெல்லாம் எழுதுகிறவர்கள் டீ குடிக்க போய்விட்டார்கள். இந்த ரிசஷன் பயத்தினால் வீழ்ந்த உலக ஸ்டாக் மார்கெட்டுகள், அமெரிக்காவின் பிஸினஸ் உலக தாக்கத்தை மீண்டும் உணர்த்தியது. ஒரு பத்து வருடத்திற்கு முன்பு, தனித்திருந்த இந்தியாவின் பங்கு மார்க்கெட்டும், உலகளவில் உயர்ந்து, தற்போது தான் அமெரிக்காவின் பங்கு மார்கெட்டின் மேல் சாய்ந்து இன்னும் அதிகமாக அதைச் சார்ந்து இருக்கிறது.

இரண்டாம் உலகப் போருக்குப் பின் அமெரிக்காவில், கிட்டத்தட்ட பத்து வருடத்திற்கு இரண்டு என்று இது வரை எட்டு ரிசஷன்கள் வந்திருக்கின்றன. எல்லா ரிசஷனும் ஆரம்பிக்கும் போது, “This is the worst recession ever”, என்று ரிப்போர்ட் செய்திருக்கிறார்கள். இது ஒரு வழக்கமான பிஸினஸ் சைக்கிள் தான். நியுட்டனின் முன்றாம் விதிக்கு, பங்கு மார்க்கெட் ஒன்றும் விதிவிலக்கல்ல என்று மறுபடி மறுபடி நிரூபிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஆனால் ரிசஷன் என்பது நீண்டு கொண்டே இருப்பதல்ல. ஒரு வருடத்திற்கு மேல் நீண்ட ரிசஷன்கள் வெகுச்சில.

ஆனால் இந்த முறை தான் இந்தியாவைப் பற்றி அமெரிக்காவில் அதிகம் பேசுகிறார்கள். நேற்று நடந்த ரிபப்ளிகன் ஜனாதிபதி விவாதத்தில் கூட, சைனா இந்தியா என்று சேர்த்துச் சேர்த்து பேசினார்கள். ஒரு பத்து வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு இது சாத்தியமில்லை. இது ஒரு பெருமையாய் இருக்கும் பட்சத்தில், இதற்கு கொடுக்கும் விலை, நமது பங்கு மார்க்கெட் அமெரிக்க மார்க்கெட்டின் மேல் சார்ந்திருக்கும் நிலைமை.

இந்த முறை வந்திருக்கும் அல்லது (சிலரைப் பொருத்தவரை) வந்து கொண்டிருக்கக்ககூடியது ரிசஷன் தான். இதற்கு முந்தைய அமெரிக்க ஜனாதிபதி ட்ரூமேன் சொன்ன விதிமுறை, “It’s a recession when your neighbor loses his job. It’s a depression when you lose your own”.

சமீபத்தில் தான், புதிதாய் வாங்கிய மாக்கிண்டாஷில், dual bootஆக மாற்றி, விண்டோஸை நிறுவினேன்.மாக்கிண்டாஷில் அதன் ஆப்பரேடிங் ஸிஸ்டத்தின் கூடவே வருகிறது தமிழ் எழுத்துரு – தமிழில் எழுத உதவும் சாஃப்ட்வேர்.

விண்டோஸில் வழக்கமாக ஈ-கலப்பை வைத்து தமிழில் எழுதி வந்திருந்தேன். நியு ஹொரைசன் மிடியாவில், NHM Writer என்கிற தமிழில் எழுத உதவும் மென்பொருளை அறிமுகப்படுத்தி இருக்கிறார்கள்.

அதை பயன்படுத்தி பார்த்த போது, அது தமிழில் எழுத உதவுவதோடு மட்டும் இல்லாமல், விண்டோஸ் கணினியின் மூலம் இணையத்தில் தமிழை சரியாக படிக்கும் படி அதை configureம் செய்கிறது.

இதைப்போல முடிவெடுத்து மசாலா படமெடுக்கும் தயாரிப்பாளர்கள், கவலைப்படாமல், ஸ்ரீகாந்த் தேவாவை பயன்படுத்தலாம். கொடுத்த பைசாவுக்கு கன்னாபின்னாவென்று மசாலா மெட்டிசைக்கிறார். டிவி பேட்டியில் கள்ளமில்லாமல் பேசுகிறார், சிரிக்கிறார். பழனியின் பாடல்கள், சிவகாசி படத்தின் பாடல்களைப் போல பிடித்து விட்டது.

India Glitz is reporting that someone has unearthed a trailer of Kamal’s dream project Marudhanayagam. And doesn’t that seem like a joke. Yes, because the you tube generation found the trailer, more than a year back and it has been written and talked about in every single cinema blog. Suresh even went one step ahead of scoring a BGM for this muted trailer.

When everyone is talking about Kamal Haasan’s upcoming project, someone has unearthed the trailer of Kamal’s dream project ‘Marudanayagam’ and put it in a website that provides free video shows.

The trailer is amazing, to say the least. The two minute video shows what is in store for us if the dream movie of Kamal gets a chance to take off. It shows a thrilling action scene set in the period of British rule in India. Another scene, in which an eagle tries to eat the flesh of the protagonist, is incredible. The scenes have the grandeur that stuns you instantly. The visuals are astonishing.

The film, if you go by the trailer, has the potential to become a real treat to those who love to see the movies with substance. The awesome visuals promise you that the movie would come out as an entertainer with an outstanding content.

Yeah !! right.

Outsiders to Indian Films are astonished at the number of group artists used in songs, dances and stunts. That is something, even we are unable to comprehend ourselves.

The Pongal special interview with Director Shankar on Vijay TV was classy. Infact, its the best ever Shankar interview on any media. Shankar as usual was down-to-earth, straight and honest in replying to Gopinath’s questions. Gopinath known for his well researched questions, did a fine job of bringing Shankar to a comfortable state where the interview just rushed through like well crafted flick.

Though it was rehash of what Shankar had already written his auto-biography, Sankar Muthal Shankar Varai(in Kumudam), it was good to see him elaborate on the films he worked before making his first film, Gentleman.

The interview brought out the best from Shankar, his humor, his approach to films and surprisingly, his (non-existetent) views on Tamil Cinema. Shankar did agree that Sujatha’s dialogue(s) added to the success of his films and also gave distinct voices for his characters.

I’ve enjoyed most of Shankar’s films except the recent ones like Sivaji and Anniyan. And I’ve always seen Shankar as a director who makes films for his audience and not just for himself. They have mostly been pedestrian fantasy flicks but sometimes end as a nonsensical film like Sivaji, where the screenplay went off-track and wasn’t in his control.
